The Fall and its Effect

Most understand that we inherit a sinful nature from Adam, but the Scriptures also teach that we've been imputed with Adam's guilt. That is, the whole human race stands condemned because of Adam's one sin.

Rather than this being a depressing doctrine it rather lays the necessary foundation for salvation in Christ. For it is Christ, called the last and second Adam, who imputes to us righteousness, justification and life. This is possible because of imputation. There are two representatives that stand for us, Adam or Christ. What a great truth that we will not stand or fall on our own merits, but can trust Christ for his righteousness and justification!

The Doctrine of Man

The teachings about who man is before God is so very important. These teachings are constantly being denied or twisted, even in churches. We must understand who we are before God if we are going to find solutions for life's problems. The basis for dignity and value; the basis for gender, sexuality, and marriage; the basis of the evil we see in the world; the need for an external solution... All these truths come from a right understanding of who we are, who God made us to be.

Tim Stephens is the senior pastor of Fairview Baptist Church. Tim grew up on a farm in Eastern Ontario and has graduated with a Computer Engineering degree from Queen’s University, a Masters of Divinity degree from Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary, and is currently pursuing his Doctor of Ministry in Expository Preaching at the Master’s Seminary. He is happily married to Raquel and they have eight children.
