The Authority of Jesus

Early in the gospel of Mark, one characteristic of Jesus that dominates is his authority. Jesus demonstrated that he has the authority to teach, the authority heal, the authority to cast out demons, and the authority to forgive sins. Only God carries such authority and Jesus demonstrates that he is the Son of God. What is our response? It is a fact that the one we follow has all authority which gives us confidence to be his disciple and go on mission for him (Matt 28:18-20).

Mark

The gospel of Mark tells us of the person and work of Jesus Christ. Under the inspiration of the Spirit, Mark presents Jesus as the Son of God and the suffering Servant sent to save his people. Mark stresses the authority of Jesus, his great sacrifice, and what it means to be his disciple. This book was given to make and encourage disciples of Jesus, and this sermon series seeks to do the same by proclaiming Mark's message for today's generation.

Tim Stephens is the senior pastor of Fairview Baptist Church. Tim grew up on a farm in Eastern Ontario and has graduated with a Computer Engineering degree from Queen’s University, a Masters of Divinity degree from Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary, and is currently pursuing his Doctor of Ministry in Expository Preaching at the Master’s Seminary. He is happily married to Raquel and they have eight children.
